The Steampunk Bible

Jake von Slatt — Tue, 04/26/2011 - 12:08

The Steampunk Bible is out! I helped connect Jeff and S.J. with people doing cool things in the movement and I wrote what I hope is the definitive candy tin etching how-to for this book. Our fashion editor Libby Bulloff also contirbuted articles and LOTS of shiny photography, including the best photo ever take of yours truly.

The Steampunk Bible is the first compendium about the movement, tracing its roots in the works of Jules Verne and H. G. Wells through its most recent expression in movies such as Sherlock Holmes. Its adherents celebrate the inventor as an artist and hero, re-envisioning and crafting retro technologies including antiquated airships and robots. A burgeoning DIY community has brought a distinctive Victorian-fantasy style to their crafts and art. Steampunk evokes a sense of adventure and discovery, and embraces extinct technologies as a way of talking about the future. This ultimate manual will appeal to aficionados and novices alike as author Jeff VanderMeer takes the reader on a wild ride through the clockwork corridors of Steampunk history.

Steam-powered!

Brightbuckle — Sun, 05/29/2011 - 18:27

Just finished reading this steam-powered book.
Beautiful print, wonderful images.
A must for anyone interested in the genre.
It was like a yearbook for a mythical "Steampunk High."

Bravo, Mister Jeff!

Best wishes,
Buster Brightbuckle

I'm really excited to look through my copy of this. And I hear there's some kind of shindig for it at the steampunk world's fair, yes?

I was at a Comics shop for

Ivriniel — Sun, 05/08/2011 - 10:41

I was at a Comics shop for Free Comic Book day, when I overheard one of my fellow Toronto Steampunk Society Members ask the clerk if they had anything on Steampunk.

He pointed out the Steampunk Bible, and the two of us promptly snapped up the two copies they had on display.

It's lovely to look at, and fascinating to read.

Later when my husband and I went to the Toronto Mini Maker Faire, (where we ran into 3 other Steampunks who had been at the Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition the previous weekend) and when we got on the shuttlebus back to to Subway Station, there was yet another Steampunk on the bus who asked if he could have a look at the book.

Victoriana Lady — Thu, 10/13/2011 - 18:32

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I finished it and promptly read it again! Opening the cover was magical, it transported me to a splendid place!!
As I am currently writing a book entitled International Steampunk Fashions it was a fabulous research tool. If I may be allowed to make a request to anyone reading this comment-
I am accepting male or female high resolution JPG photos of Steampunk ensembles. All models, photographers and organizations will be fully credited in the book.
G.D. Falksen has agreed to write the forward for the book of which I am honored. Please send all photos and inquiries to-

AllThingsVictorian.com@gmail.com. Thank you kindly!
