Sai does an EL fabric demo
Meredith Scheff — Mon, 04/05/2010 - 14:49
One of the reasons I love Noisebridge is that peeps are always bringing in the New And Shiny for us to play with. This week, it was Sai Emrys, who got a sample of EL Fabric. We spent a couple hours checking it out, trying to find that perfect project for it. I'd be interested in our brilliant readers suggestions of how to use it best.
I'm thinking bikini.

Bikini will be great
camella — Thu, 03/10/2011 - 04:54I am a girl and I like wearing new and shinny clothes. I am more concern about fashion and style. For your project bikini will be great and will be nice combination because wearing them it will be comfortable plus looks very elegant. Bike vest will also be great like Jake mom's says. This is our decision now, the conclusion is up to you. Anything will go well with EL Fabric whatever you choose please give your decision. :D

I like the vest idea. and the Bikini (~_^) lighted piping on a riding jacket for a motorcycle would be nice too.
How to use EL fabric
Jakes Mom — Tue, 04/06/2010 - 10:36I am Jake's Mom and I've made several steampunk flavored items of clothing for him. I thought of a bike vest since he is a regular rider, however because his bike is a recumbent his back isn't visible. However one could make a stencil of a gear and he could have a lighted gear on the back of his seat. Another use, with stencils, would be safety lights for grandchildren on Halloween, perhaps a batman sign on the back of a cape, or stars and crescent moons on a wizard's hat. I want to get some of this stuff!

I like the idea of over printing, what I really want is a waistcoat like the one you made me for xmas that flashes!

Jake von Slatt — Tue, 04/06/2010 - 15:01Are you kidding? Mom would kill me if I didn't wear a helmet when I rode!

Where to get it
calciphus — Mon, 04/05/2010 - 19:29So it took a bit to track these guys down, they're not the most forthcoming with contact info.
The company that makes this is CrossLink. Here's their site:
http://www.crosslinkusa.com/solutions_flexible_lighting.htm
I've contacted them for a sample kit. It isn't easy, I had to sign up for an account then pull the contact info out of the white paper in their "premium content" section. Main site hasn't been updated since 2008
If they respond and have rational prices, I'll report back.
Thanks for the research and
