Retro Cellphone Handset

Jake von Slatt — Thu, 08/20/2009 - 06:53

Here's a project of mine from a few years ago, it's an LG mobile 'embedded' into an old Western Electric model 500 handset.

The Bell Model 500 desk phone manufactured for decades by Western Electric is an icon of Twentieth Century product design.  The evolution of the Model 500's receiver begun with the first telephones produced in the late 19th Century and it's longevity has taken it into the 21st.  I have always found it to be ergonomically designed and comfortably to use,  It is the embodiment of "form follows function".

I am thinking about making a follow up version for my iPhone 3 GS but have yet to find a suitable handset to embed it in.

The full build log is here . . .

Motorola Droid 3 Case

A Droid 3 Case will protect your Droid 3 device. It is a good idea to use a Droid 3 Case for all types of devices since they are delicate electronics items that can break easily if dropped or slip out of your hands. Motorola Droid 3 Screen Protector

Since we all use our Motorola Droid 3 XT862 device so much there is a tendency for them to get dirty very quickly. There are also so many germs on most of our Droid 3 device and for this reason screen protectors are a good idea for all types of phones. Protectors include screen protectors which will ensure that your Droid 3 device screen will be free of scratches and cracks in case of accidental drops. Also, they keep fingerprints off the screen and the nice thing is that if you screen protector gets dirty you can easily replace it. Replacing phones is costly so it is better to protect your Droid 3 device. And with different types of cleaners you can also ensure that your Motorola Droid 3 XT862 device will be sanitary and germ-free and free of everyday dust and dirt build up.

Bluetooth Handset?

Wermet — Tue, 01/26/2010 - 00:45

How about embedding Bluetooth electronics into the handsome handset? This way you will have the flexibility to use the handset with multiple phones. You will also be able to continue using your steampunked handset as you replace cell phones every few years.

Phone reversion

GYrocopter — Sat, 12/26/2009 - 16:18

I'd quite like to dismantle my old cell phone to modify the design, but I can't find anything to undo screws that are hexagonal and approx. 0.5cm across.
Can anyone suggest anything?

P.S I'm new to all this, and this is my first potential project, so apologies if I've put my foot in anything.

I suggest a brick-cellphone? It might be wide enough that you could mount it on the side.
