Regresty: Things that are not steampunk

Meredith Scheff — Tue, 07/13/2010 - 14:46

I am really loving hating Regretsy's current  "Things That are Not Steampunk" series. The postings all elicit a facepalm and then silent sobbing into said palm; both of hilarity and pity for the genre.

Many Pretenders

Warthan — Tue, 08/17/2010 - 15:17

There are now many people marketing items as Steampunk, or calling anything that has the slightest possibility of looking mechanical Steampunk. As the original Punk said, it's all about the money.

Meh, let them try... :)

Too true. I'm of the mind

kurisu7885 — Wed, 08/18/2010 - 11:03

Too true. I'm of the mind that steamy stuff is fairly open source, however, when it'd be obvious to the blind that something isn't remotely steamy, well, there's no excuse.

As said some of this is

kurisu7885 — Mon, 08/16/2010 - 21:34

As said some of this is borderline or can be adapted.

One of my biggest peeves are people tagging their crap on Amazon or Ebay, and now Etsy, as Steampunk to get more hits. I don't want to be searching for goggles and find bondage gear.

Would that be name brand Hellsing?

BreakerCulture — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 13:01

I'm usually all up in arms when people try to force their views on what is or isn't steam punk, but these travesties have tuned my forehead red with faecepalm. Also, I lol'd at Van Hellsing in the windbreaker. Good stuff.

Jake von Slatt — Tue, 07/13/2010 - 15:00

There were a couple of things early on the were borderline steampunk, but now she's got it well calibrated!
