Laurence writes:

Dear Sir:

I have added some pictures to my flickr photoset of my new etching designs.

Your site was the inspiration for this madness. Each design has to be hunted for, modified, printed, modified again, etched, modified again, and then a batch of 'production quality' are all etched. And then off to the next design.

Thanks again for the inspiration.

I think these are just fabulous! There are a couple more after the cut but be sure to click through to Laurence's Flicker and check out the copper plated Fulton's Nautilus tin!

Great choice for illustrations

I especially like the Dürer illustration. Great work. I'll have to give this a try some day.

These are marvelous! I love them all, but especially the japanese woodblock print inspired "wave" and the antelope. Just Lovely.

masking

I've been using Staples 'Photo Basic Gloss' paper in the red box with a 600 dpi HP laserjet 4M. Put your iron on its cotton(hot) setting. Use the iron just to heat and lightly press the paper down, and the trick, use a spoon to rub the paper to get good contact, a medium rub, not hard. 4 to 5 minutes of heating and spooning, heating and spooning, making sure to get your spoon marks to cover the entire area. Soak the paper for about 5 minutes to get it to soften. You need to get all the paper off and all of the gloss off, the gloss comes off with lots of gentle scrubbing with a damp washcloth. Then melted wax to coat the sides of the lid. Extra wax is usually needed at the edges, and is applied with a matchstick. The wax and toner come off with carb cleaner.

Staples has recently 'improved' their paper, the new stuff has wax on both sides and doesn't iron so well anymore. I have found a stash of the old good stuff up here in Canada near my bother's house.

I've been having great luck

Jake von Slatt — Mon, 07/13/2009 - 22:28

I've been having great luck with the glossy newsprint the Sunday circulars come on, you do need to make a 'sled' from regular paper to get it to go through the printer though - just fold over the top 3/4".

Those are pretty cool, but yours, Mr. Von Slatt, were AMAZING!
