It's About Freedom, Sir . . .

We've seen this gentlemen before here at The Steampunk Workshop. He is Stephen Fry and in addition to playing the inimitable "Jeeves" in the ITV version of P. G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster he is a supporter of free software.
The GNU organization has, created, nurtured, and fought for free software for 25 years now and Stephen made this short film to commemorated that quarter century.
The Steampunk Workshop's servers as well as the workstations and laptop I use to upload this drivel all run on Open Source operating systems and we are eternally grateful to their creators and supporters!

Well put...
Elepski — Tue, 09/02/2008 - 20:38Very well put indeed, I say this as a person who is pretty well versed in Unix. These OS run the majority of web servers out there. They run great with ridiculous uptime like 2100 days.
I have personally dealt with the chaos that can come from "Commercial" software when the maker of that software decides they want to update your product... that they still own... Blue screen of death anyone?!?
He spoke of birthdays... and I feel I must share this:
I work in the Network Operations Center if one of the largest web hosts. What is ironic, Is that the office space I work in is the original IBM assembly building in Boca Raton. The data center I work in is the "birth place" of the first commercial IBM PC.... literally.
So.. If the PC was a religion... I work in Mecca.
